We
had a small but mighty team at Summer JO's - With only 14 athletes we took 5
golds, 2 silvers, 1 fifth, 3 sixths, 2 eights, 1 tenth, and seven more top
twenty swims. We came in 14th out of 36 teams. Considering we had 5 kids
out at Junior Nationals ... not so bad when you do the percentages!
Here's a breakdown of the swims that finished in the top 20:
10 and under - Sasha Kumar truly had an amazing JO performance with four first and two second place finishes! 50 back - 1st, 50 breast - 1st, 50 fly - 1st, 50 free - 2nd, 100 breast - 1st, 200 IM - 2nd. (We nicknamed her "The Beast.")
Lily Parks also took home the gold with a first place finish in the 13/14 girls 100 breaststroke!

Over the years things have changed in sport and I believe we will be much more help to our swimmers if our parents understand how our coaches are thinking and making decisions here at CALI. As the article attests, it is our losses and failures that build our character and in the end make us all better student-athletes.Bringing Back Competition for Kids is a Winner - by Sue Pascoe
