California Aquatics at the
CIF Swimming Championship
Cali swimmers
had a great CIF meet in Long Beach this last week. In Division
Four Freshman Lydia Tang finished 6th in the 200 IM and 7th in the 100 Bk with 2:15.74 and 1:01.83 respectively. Spencer Lee finished 4th
in the 200 IM with a 1:59.45 and won the 100 Fly with a 51.98.
Avelino Enriquez finished 3rd in the 100 Fly with a 52.61 and won the
100 Bk in a 52.41, making his spring Junior National cut. Danny
David finished 10th in the 100 back with a 57.32.
In Division Two,
Asher Garcia made his first two Junior National cuts in the 100 Bk and
100 Fly finishing 7th and 4th respectively. Kaitlyn Salovich
finished 16th in the 200 Free posting a 1:56.58. Chris Weber
finished 4th in the 200 IM with a 1:56.20 and 5th in the 100
Breast posting a 58.84 (a Junior National cut). Megan Machynia
finished 12th in the 100 Fly with a 59.68. Milena Lopez also swam
on a relay for Canyon High that finished third and qualified for the
Masters meet. Nicole Hau picked up
her first ever Junior National cut in the 100 Fly with a 58.10 in 7th.
She also finished 16th in the 100 free. Andrew Saeta had two
excellent swims in his individual events finishing 2nd in the 200 IM
with a 1:50.98 (Junior National cut) and first in the 100 back with a
48.94, a Senior National cut, breaking Michael Cavic's meet record in the
backstroke from 2000. Worth mentioning also was his lead off
impressive 22.66 in the 50 backstroke on the medley relay and also a lead off
100 Free that would have won CIF by almost a second of 45.87!! The
Freestyle swimmers owe Andrew some thanks for not entering!!!
All in all our
swimmer had a great meet picking up 7 Junior National cuts, 1 Senior
National cut, 3 individual champions, 13 top 8 finishes in individual
events, 17 top 16 finishes in individual events. Not bad for only
13 swimmers!!! A special congratulations should go out to those
who made their Junior National cuts for the first time and our
individual champions. Great job Cali swimmers keep working hard!!!
Junior Olympics Update

California Aquatics swimmers participated in the 2007 Summer Junior
Olympic
Championships at the Janet Evans Swim Complex in Fullerton, California. The
team swam extremely well. Ninety percent of all the swims were lifetime
bests, Chris Weber took 3rd in both the 100 (1:09.39) and 200 (2:32.20)
breaststroke, Asher Garcia was third in the 200 individual medley (2:16.32),
Sasha Kumar finished 5th in the 100 back (1:25.91) and 6th in the 50 breast
(43.04). Some other notable swims were Lilly Parks 5th in the 100 breast
(1:19.51) and a two second drop in the 200 breast (2:56.93). Finally, in the
individual events Lydia Tang went 19:18.47 dropping 21 seconds to take 14th
in the 1500 meter. The relays were just as impressive. 98 percent of all
the relays scored points and 90 percent were best times. The 15 and over
boys of Asher Garcia (back) Chris Weber (breast) Zack Taylor (fly) and Aram
Simonian (free) won the 200 medley relay (1:53.62) and the same team was
second in the 400 medley relay (4:10.19) . The 13-14 Girls 400 medley relay
of Lydia Tang (back) Lilly Parks (breast) Suman Kumar (fly) and Nicole Hau
(free) were third and qualified for the Sectional meet in 2008.
Congratulations to all the swimmers who swam as individuals and on relays.
It was a tremendous team showing.
